Why a community of practice?
The ESF 2007 - 2013 strongly focuses on good governance and partnership across Europe. It also calls for the promotion of transnational cooperation with the aim of learning from one another. Supporting transnational cooperation is a new challenge to ESF managers, as it requires specific skills and resources, dedicated information and communication tools, and the development of procedures and frameworks for action that match those of the other ESF Programmes.
In order to stimulate and facilitate peer learning on promoting transnational cooperation between ESF managers, a European community of practice on Transnational cooperation has been set up. Its main functions are to:
- exchange practice and experience in designing, administring and monitoring transnational activities
- establish and manage an online platform to facilitate discussion and exchange of information
- contribute to the development of the necessary skills and to building institutional capacity to effectively promote, and benefit from, transnational exchange
- facilitate the development of suitable tools and procedures to make transnational cooperation work
